louisville alliance for sustainable gun violence reduction

Louisville Alliance for Sustainable Gun Violence Reduction (LASGVR)

Violence reduction takes the efforts of every sector of the community, and the offering of time, talent, and resources from passionate individuals and powerful organizations. Join us in the continuation of our shared work by joining the Louisville Alliance for Sustainable Gun Violence Reduction. LASGVR is the collective effort of over 50 organizations and community members seeking to co-create conditions for community safety, well-being, and collaboration.

Join us every Wednesday at 3:00 PM on zoom at https://zoom.us/j/9847872987

Public Health approaches to violence reduction

use an Upstream-Midstream-Downstream model.

  •  Upstream initiatives address structural issues like poverty, racism, oppression, disenfranchisement, and community fracturing. Its main question is How can we build thriving neighborhoods, families, and young adults?

  • Mid-stream interventions address the moment of crisis when gun violence occurs, or the moments in which there is potential for gun violence. Its main question is How can we intervene and mediate potential or ongoing conflict?

  • Downstream action take place in response to incidents of violence and address caring for the community. These include things like emergency services, the justice system, caring for victims/survivors, addressing safety, and community mobilization. Its main question is How can we all contribute to reduce violence and participate in community repair?
